Ummaggasutta draft
Ummaggasutta. A certain monk approaches the Buddha and asks various questions: “By what is the world led? By what is it drawn along? Under the sway of what that has arisen, does it go?” The Buddha praises the questioner: “Happy is your approach” (bhaddako te ummaggo) and says that the answer to his question is “thought.” “Of what sort is the man widely learned who knows the Dhamma?” “He who understands the meaning and text of the Dhamma and is set on living in accordance with it.” Similarly, the man of great wisdom is he who thinks for the profit both of himself and of the whole world.

Ummaggasutta. Một vị tỳ-kheo nọ đến gặp Đức Phật và hỏi nhiều câu hỏi khác nhau: “Thế gian bị dẫn dắt bởi điều gì? Nó bị kéo đi bởi điều gì? Dưới sự chi phối của cái gì đã khởi sinh, nó sẽ đi theo?” Đức Phật ca ngợi người hỏi: “Cách tiếp cận của ông thật tốt đẹp” (bhaddako te ummaggo) và nói rằng câu trả lời cho câu hỏi của ông là “ý nghĩ.” “Người học rộng biết Pháp là loại người như thế nào?” “Đó là người hiểu ý nghĩa và kinh văn của Pháp và quyết tâm sống thuận theo nó.” Tương tự như vậy, người có tuệ lớn là người suy nghĩ vì lợi ích của cả bản thân mình và của toàn thế giới.
