Aggavaṁsa untranslated
Aggavaṁsa. Thera of Pagan. He wrote a Pāli grammar, the Saddanīti, in 1154 (Gv.63; SvD.v.1238; Sās.74). He was tutor to King Narapatisithu of Pagan (Bode, 16).
The Gandhavaṁsa calls him a native of Jambudīpa (p.67), but his name occurs among the famous residents in the retired monastery of the northern plateau above Pagan, the cradle of Pāli Burmese literature. Forchhammer Report, p.2; Jardine Prize Essay, p.34.
