Paṇḍaraṅga. A sect of Brahmin ascetics; they are mentioned in the time of the Buddha (e.g., Dhpa.iv.8) and also in that of Asoka. Perhaps they covered their bodies with ashes, e.g., Dpv.viii.35; Vin-a.i.44.
