Bhayabheravasutta draft
Bhayabheravasutta. Jāṇussoṇī visits the Buddha at Jetavana and asks him how it is that young men who have left the world under him should be able to live in solitude, in the depths of the forest, a joyless life. The Buddha answers that while yet a Bodhisatta he was assailed by the same doubts. Fear comes only to him whose heart is filled with desire and longing, and who is restless, witless, and drivelling. But the man, who is pure, resolute, and free from corruptions of the heart, lives in confidence in the forest and develops the jhānas. The Buddha then describes how he passed through these stages of development before becoming the Enlightened One (MN.i.16ff).
This Sutta contains an account of the “threefold lore”(tisso vijjā) of the Buddha (see Vin-a.i.116) and praises of the Saraṇā (Refuges) (Vin-a.i.172).
Bhayabheravasutta. Jāṇussoṇī đến thăm Đức Phật tại Jetavana và hỏi Ngài làm thế nào mà những thanh niên xuất gia theo Ngài lại có thể sống một đời sống không có niềm vui trong sự tĩnh tại, ở nơi rừng sâu. Đức Phật trả lời rằng khi còn là một Bodhisatta, Ngài cũng bị bủa vây bởi những nghi ngờ tương tự. Sự sợ hãi chỉ đến với người mà tâm chứa đầy ham muốn và khao khát, và là người trạo cử, thiếu trí, và ngu ngốc. Nhưng người thanh tịnh, kiên định, và không bị những uế nhiễm của tâm, thì sống đầy tự tin trong rừng và tu tập các jhāna. Sau đó Đức Phật miêu tả cách Ngài đã vượt qua những giai đoạn tu tập này trước khi trở thành Bậc Giác Ngộ (MN.i.16ff).
Sutta này chứa một lời kể về "tam minh" (tisso vijjā) của Đức Phật (xem Vin-a.i.116) và những lời ca ngợi Saraṇā (Nơi nương tựa) (Vin-a.i.172).
