Mahā Saḷāyatana, Mahisaḷāyatanikasutta. The Buddha instructs the monks on the necessity of acquiring the right kind of knowledge of the sense organs, their objects, their perception, their contact and the feelings arising there from. Such knowledge enables a monk to traverse the Noble Eightfold Path to its perfected development and to the realization of transcendent knowledge, which is understanding and deliverance. Mahā Saḷāyatana, Mahisaḷāyatanikasutta. Đức Phật hướng dẫn các tỳ-kheo về sự cần thiết của việc đạt được loại kiến thức đúng đắn về các căn, các trần của chúng, sự nhận thức của chúng, sự xúc chạm của chúng và những cảm thọ phát sinh từ đó. Kiến thức như vậy cho phép một vị tỳ-kheo đi qua Bát Thánh đạo đến sự phát triển hoàn thiện của nó và đến việc chứng ngộ kiến thức siêu việt, đó là sự hiểu biết và sự giải thoát. MN.iii.287-90.
