Vaṅga untranslated
Vaṅga, Vaṅgā. The name of a people and their country, the modern Bengal. It is nowhere mentioned in the four Nikāyas, nor included among the Mahā Janapadas. The mother of Sīhabāhu and Sīhasīvalī was a Vaṅga princess, the daughter of the Vaṅga king who had married the daughter of the king of Kaliṅga (Mhv.vi.1ff.; Dpv.ix.2). The Milinda (p. 359) mentions Vaṅga as a trading place to be reached by sea.
