Gaṇḍatindujātaka draft
Gaṇḍatindujātaka (Ja 520). Pañcāla, king of Kampilla, is a wicked monarch, and his subjects, harassed by his officers, suffer great oppression. The Bodhisatta, born as the divinity of a gaṇḍatindu-tree, becoming aware of this, appears in the king’s bed-chamber and urges him to give up his evil ways and find out for himself the condition of his subjects. The king, taking this advice, travels about in disguise with his chaplain. Everywhere he finds men, women and even the beasts cursing his very name. He returns to the capital and devotes himself to good works (Ja.v.98ff).

Gaṇḍatindujātaka (Ja 520). Pañcāla, vua xứ Kampilla, là một vị vua độc ác, và thần dân của ông, bị các quan lại của ông sách nhiễu, phải chịu áp bức nặng nề. Bodhisatta, khi ấy sinh làm vị thọ thần gaṇḍatindu, biết được điều này, liền hiện ra trong phòng ngủ của vua và khuyên vua từ bỏ những cách hành xử xấu ác, tự mình tìm hiểu tình cảnh của thần dân. Nghe theo lời khuyên, vua cải trang đi khắp nơi cùng với vị quốc sư của mình. Ở khắp mọi nơi, vua thấy đàn ông, đàn bà, và cả loài vật đều nguyền rủa chính tên mình. Vua trở về kinh đô và dốc lòng làm việc thiện (Ja.v.98ff).
