Vedisa untranslated
Vedisa, Vedisagiri. A city, the home of Devī, mother of Mahinda. He and Saṅghamittā were born there, and, just before he left for Ceylon, he went there to visit his mother and stayed for one month in the monastery, which was also called Vedisagiri (Dpv.vi.15; xii.14, 35; Vin-a.i.70, 71; Mhv.xiii.6-9,18). Vedisa was fifty yojanas from Pāṭaliputta and was founded by the Sākiyans who fled from Viḍūḍabha’s massacre (Mbv., p. 98). Vedisa is identified with the modern Bhilsa in Gwalior State, twenty-six miles north-east of Bhopal. Mhv.Trs. 88, n.4.
